Dr. Altahir pursued higher education at the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad in Iraq where he received a Medical Degree. He completed a residency in general psychiatry at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Penn State University/ Hershey Medical Center.

With offices in Stafford and Falls Church, Virginia, Dr. Altahir is the medical director of Altahir Behavioral Health and specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. The doctor sees both children and adults, providing pharmaceutical management and treatment for ADHD; depression; mood disorders; autism spectrum disorders; anxiety; and psychosis, and completes full psychiatric evaluations.

The doctor is board-certified in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and explained that the ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology. Dr. Altahir is a former member of the AMA and the American Psychiatric Association.

Aside from his professional pursuits, Dr. Altahir donates to several charities on a regular basis. He would like to dedicate this honor to his mother, Samira Al-Nawab, MD, and his sister, Mayada Rafat, MD.
