Bryan S. Shapiro is recognized by
Continental Who’s Who among Law Professionals. Bryan is a Shareholder, and founding Principal with Shapiro, Hankinson and Knutson Law Corporation.
Bryan has been practicing construction law for almost four decades, and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2006. His expertise lies in the areas of construction law, including contract negotiation, preparation and claims. He also sits as an arbitrator and mediator in complex construction disputes. His legal advice is sought by design professionals, insurers, owners, contractors, developers, and construction and project managers. Most of his clients are leaders in the construction industry and look to Bryan to keep them in business and out of the Court system.
In addition, Bryan is highly regarded by his peers and is listed in the National Post Best Lawyers List and the Best Lawyers in Canada as one of the best construction lawyers in Canada. He is also listed in Who’s Who Legal as a foremost international legal practitioner in construction law.
Bryan has also contributed to the Law Profession as an author and regular contributor to construction-related publications, and is a frequent lecturer at construction law seminars and workshops. Additionally, he is the original author of ACEC Document 31, Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and Canadian Council of Professional Engineers Standard Client/Engineer Contracts and Guidelines to Design Professional Practice, and is a contributor to its 2008 revision. Bryan has been an Adjunct Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of British Columbia since 1972, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in legal aspects of engineering and project management practice.
Bryan is a past Chairman of the Construction Law Sections of both the Canadian and British Columbia Bar Associations, and is a member of many construction-related organizations. He served on the Construction Dispute Resolution Advisory Committee to the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre. Additionally, Bryan is a founding member of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, an organization composed of the top construction lawyers from each province in Canada. Bryan received his Law Degree from the University of British Columbia in 1970. He also received his B.A. from University of Manitoba in 1966.
