CHARLENE BARRIE - OWNER/CHEF

Turton, SD — Charlene Barrie is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Executive for her outstanding contributions and professional excellence as the Chef & Owner at Char's Kitchen.

 

Having resided in Turton, SD for over 25 years, Charlene (Char) Barrie and her husband, Rolland Barrie have proudly maintained the Barrie Farm. Mrs. Barrie has enjoyed baking, gardening, and canning all throughout her life, and utilized her passions to establish Char’s Kitchen. She began her journey of selling homemade jellies at a flea market in 1995. After the flea market ended, Char’s Kitchen was established after receiving several calls to make more of her jellies and baked goods. Her daughter, Glenda, recommended that the goods be decorated with material and a bow, and then later utilized computer labels. 

 

Proud to have created delicious and unique recipes, Char’s Kitchen offers 16 regular flavors and 5 sugar-free flavors of jelly, along with 7 flavors of syrup, honey, 5 types of pickles, and 2 types of salsa. Since then, Mrs. Barrie often gifted her delicious jellies to friends and family and would sell them at craft fair tables through the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). She also sells her products in gift shops throughout the South Dakota area as well as festivals and arts in the parks. In June of 1998, as she received more calls for her jellies, she expanded into her own 14x28 "jelly house" which is located on the Barrie Farm. Mrs. Barrie’s jelly is freshly made year-round, rhubarb is frozen and the juice from the summer fruits is canned and saved for the winter batches. All-natural, they have no additives, preservatives, or corn syrup. She recommends Chokecherry and Rhubarb, (Raspberry Rhubarb goes great with peanut butter), they are unique to the Dakota’s.

 

Certified by the National Restaurant Association, Char’s Kitchen is licensed by the state of South Dakota, and holds a national ServSafe certificate. In addition, Ms. Barrie is active as a board member of the VWF's Auxiliary and a former president of the Conde American Legion Auxiliary.

 

As a testament to her professional excellence, Mrs. Barrie is currently a member of the Professional Women's Association and an honor member of Stanford Who’s Who. She has been featured by Marquis Who’s Who with Legacy Press Release, for a Top Professional Award, an Albert Nelson Achievement Award, and in the 8th edition of the Millennium Magazine.  

 

In her spare time, Mrs. Barrie enjoys gardening, baking, cooking, entertaining, and fishing and camping with her family and friends. She also devotes her time to helping out with most community projects.

 

Mrs. Barrie dedicates this honorable recognition to her husband, Rolland Barrie, whom she is proud to work with.
