Dr Farris began his educational journey at Wabash College
where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Humanities. He then
attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he received an MD/
Ph.D. He capped his exceptional scholarship at Johns Hopkins University
affiliated hospital where he finished an internship, internal medicine
residency, and gastroenterology fellowship.
In private practice, Dr. Ferris is a consulting
gastroenterologist focusing on inflammatory bowel syndrome, functional bowel
disease, and liver disease. He is known for his compassion and forming strong
relationships with his patients, communicating with them, and personalizing
their care. The doctor notes that his greatest strength is his commitment to
the patient-doctor relationship. Always seeking excellence, he places a strong
emphasis on personal encounters with his patients and families and believes
that these relationships are crucial to developing effective plans for

He serves as the Director of GI Clinical Research for Tryon Medical Partners
and is the Principal Investigator for clinical trials in Ulcerative Colitis;
Crohn’s Disease; Celiac ; Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD); and other areas.
Board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine by
the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), Dr. Farris seeks to achieve
higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world, which is the
focus of the ABIM. He added that Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine
focused on the digestive system and its disorders and a gastroenterologist is a
physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of
disorders related to the esophagus; stomach; small intestines; colon; liver;
pancreas; and biliary system.
Recognized for his outstanding work, Dr. Farris has received
multiple awards, including Business North Carolina Top Doctor in 2008, 2009 and
2021, 2022. He is dedicated to keeping abreast of the latest state-of-the-art
advancements in his field and is a member of numerous organizations, including
the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for
Gastroenterological Intestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Farris credits his attention to detail to his mentor
during his Ph.D., Solomon Snyder, MD. He also notes that his wife is a nurse,
and they have three children: a daughter
who is a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill; a daughter completing an MBA in Paris,
France; and a son attending law school at USC. In his free time, he enjoys golf
and cheering on the Tarheels, the Charlotte Hornets, and the Carolina Panthers.
