A graduate of Cornell University, SUNY Law, and NYU Law, Mr. Lackert possesses an impressive academic background, holding AB cum laude, JD, and LLM degrees. Throughout his career, Mr. Lackert has garnered recognition as one of the world's leading IP lawyers, consistently ranked for his expertise in intellectual property including trademark, geographical indications, domain name, and copyright law.
With more than 35 years in the field, Mr. Lackert has represented multinational Fortune 100 corporations as well as start-up companies to protect their intellectual property, both in the United States and globally. His experience includes global trademark portfolio management, franchising, licensing, anti-counterfeiting work, domain name arbitration, geographical indication protection, and global IP litigation practice working with local counsel in almost 200 countries.
With a career marked by extraordinary accomplishments, Mr. Lackert has chaired numerous professional committees in the INTA and ABA, and has actively contributed to the development of legal frameworks in international business and intellectual property rights, including providing programs on the WTO TRIPS Agreement on IP rights.
To name a few of his committee chair positions, he has served as either chair or co-chair of projects and committees such as Co-Chair of the IP in Space Project Team, INTA; Chair, External Affairs Committee, INTA; Chair, Issues and Policy Committee INTA; Chair, International Editorial Board, INTA; Co-Chair, Amicus Brief Committee, INTA; Chair, Geographical Indications Committee, INTA; Chair, Related Rights Committee, INTA; Chair, Franchising Committee, American Bar Association (ABA); Chair, Trade Secrets Committee, ABA; Chair, International Trademarks Committee, ABA; and Chair, Copyright Division and Trademark Division, ABA. Moreover, he served as the Secretary and then the President of the US Group of the AIPPI (French acronym for the “International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property”), the oldest global IP professional association in the world, founded in 1897. For his work on the IP in Space Project Team, Mr. Lackert received the prestigious INTA Service Award in November of 2023.

Looking ahead, Mr. Lackert aims to expand his footprint in the field of Intellectual Property Law relating to Outer Space and to Artificial Intelligence, including an article coming out shortly on IP and AGI/ASI (Artificial General Intelligence/Artificial Superintelligence). Mr. Lackert intends to continue his lifelong work to address the next technological challenges for IP as he always has.
