St. Louis, MO- David E. Karges, DO, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine in acknowledgment of his role as a Professor at St. Louis University Department of Orthopedic Surgery and an Orthopedic Surgeon at SLU Care Physician Group.
Dr. Karges works as an orthopedic surgeon at St. Louis Care Physician Group, the top patient-centered provider of health care services in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Renowned for milestones, St. Louis University facilities performed the first heart transplant in the Midwest and the first kidney transplant in St. Louis. The group has received recognition for its pioneering research, developing a hybrid maze treatment of atrial fibrillation and new approaches to re-growing limbs. In addition to his role as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Karges is a professor at St. Louis University Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Trauma Fellowship Program. Many of the department physicians have been recognized for providing excellent resident education.
Esteemed for being a talented surgeon and educator, Dr. Karges has diverse areas of clinical interests, including foot and ankle trauma, reconstruction and arthroplasty, focusing on treatments for orthotic/brace/prosthetic lower extremity limbs and diabetic limbs. He is a frequent presenter at conferences internationally and nationally. He practices at Saint Louis University Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, currently accepting new patients and patients requiring outpatient care.
Before Dr. Karges entered his career, he attended the University of Washington and completed a Bachelor of Science in vertebrate biology from the University of Washington. Following this, he enrolled at Western University of Health Sciences, earning a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. For post-education, he completed a surgical residency at St. John’s Health and an orthopedic traumatology fellowship at Henry Ford Health System. To conclude his training, he spent ten months at Harbor View Medical Center, advancing his expertise of the ankle and foot. He received licensure by the states of Missouri and Michigan, currently pending a Washington State license.
An esteemed member of several organizations, Dr. Karges maintains affiliations with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Osteopathic Association of Orthopaedics, American Academy Orthopaedic Trauma Association, St. Louis Orthopaedic Society, AO Alumni Association, and Detroit Orthopaedic Society.
Published in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Karges co-authored textbook chapters and numerous articles such as “Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Intra-Articular Fractures of the Os Calcis: Preliminary Results” and “Functional Outcomes After Operative Treatment of Calcaneal Fractures: Midterm Review”. He has published work independently, writing “Current Concepts For Treatment Of The Painful Flatfoot In The Elderly”.
As a testament to Dr. Karges’ success, the Best Doctors in St. Louis recognized him from 2004 to 2018, Best Doctors in Detroit recognized him from 1998 to 2003, and National Registry of Who’s Who listed him in 2000. He received several awards throughout the 1990s, including the Distinguished Teaching Award by Henry Ford Hospital.
