Dr. Shapiro pursued higher education at Bowdoin College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and achieved his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed an internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1993 and finished a sports medicine fellowship at Tufts/New England Medical Center in 1994. 

A specialist in orthopedic surgery focused on knee and shoulder surgeries, Dr. Shapiro has been managing partner and president of Orthopedic Surgery Associates since 1994. The doctor notes that this is a group practice offering comprehensive orthopedic care in South Florida. 

Dr. Shapiro has received many accolades during his illustrious career and considers performing 2,600 shoulder surgeries and 3.600 knee surgeries among his greatest accomplishments. He has also been recognized with the Patient Safety Excellence Award and has a position on the Health Grades Honor Roll. 

 

Considering his extraordinary success, Dr. Shapiro credits Dr. John Richmond as a mentor and believes that his philosophy to listen to the patient and explain procedures to them, emphasizing communication and patient understanding, has also helped him to reach his highly respected and revered status in the field. Touting an impressive education and exceptional success in his surgeries, the doctor is also an author with numerous publications and presentations on various orthopedic topics. 

Looking to the future, Dr. Shapiro plans to continue providing excellent care to his patients with a focus on his commitment to ongoing patient well-being and treatment.  Aside from his professional pursuits, the doctor enjoys skiing, exercise, and spending time with his family. He would like to dedicate this honor and express his gratitude to his wife and children for their love and support.
