Dr. Erkinjon G. Nazarov has established a distinguished international career in scientific research and analytical instrumentation, with a focus on ion mobility spectrometry and microplasma technology. As co owner of Microplasma LLC in Tampa, Florida, he continues to advance the development of micro plasma based ion sources for chemical trace detection while providing research and consulting expertise in analytical instrumentation.
Dr. Nazarov is widely recognized for his expertise in ion mobility spectrometry, including differential mobility spectrometry and time of flight systems. His work has played a significant role in improving the detection and analysis of chemical compounds, contributing to advancements in both scientific research and practical applications in safety and security.
He holds advanced academic credentials, including a Master’s degree in physics and electrical engineering from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, a Doctor of Philosophy in surface ionization of organic molecules from the Ioffe Physical Technical Institute, and a Doctor of Philosophy in physical and mathematical sciences from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nazarov has led groundbreaking research and development efforts across multiple institutions. His work at Sionex Corporation included the development of a Differential Mobility Spectrometer and early prototypes of time of flight ion mobility spectrometers. At the Draper Laboratory Bioengineering Center, he further advanced analytical techniques and contributed to the development of innovative detection systems. Earlier in his career, he held academic and research leadership roles at New Mexico State University and the Arifov Institute of Electronics in Uzbekistan.
Dr. Nazarov’s contributions to science are reflected in his extensive body of work, including more than 130 scientific publications and four book chapters. He also holds 55 United States patents, underscoring his role as a leading innovator in his field. His achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including the International Science Emergency Grant Program Award, the Al Biruni Award, the Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Biological Institute, and recognition from the Aylmer Beaches International Community.
He credits his mentor, Professor Gary Eiceman, as well as the unwavering support of his wife, Rumi Masagutova, for their influence on his career. Outside of his professional work, Dr. Nazarov values spending time with his family.
Looking ahead, he plans to dedicate more time to family while continuing to share his expertise, foster collaboration, and contribute to advancements in microplasma research and ion mobility spectrometry. Guided by a philosophy centered on collaboration and support, he remains committed to advancing scientific innovation and discovery.
