Dr. Janet B. Arrowsmith has built a distinguished career spanning medicine, public health, and regulatory science, supported by extensive expertise in internal medicine, epidemiology, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory affairs. Now retired from consulting, she continues to dedicate her time and experience to community service, advocacy, and advancing human rights initiatives.

Dr. Arrowsmith earned her medical degree from Tulane University, completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and completed a fellowship in epidemiology through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While serving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the CDC, and the Indian Health Service as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, she attained the rank of O-6 Captain. Throughout her distinguished career, she remained committed to advancing public health through both clinical practice and regulatory leadership, an achievement reflected in her promotion to Captain.

Today, Dr. Arrowsmith is especially passionate about community service and advocacy. She serves on the Board of Directors of Prison Lights Inc. (PLI), a nonprofit legal and advocacy organization dedicated to exposing widespread violations of fundamental human rights in healthcare, mental health treatment, and nutrition within the prison system. Prison Lights works to educate, train, and equip legal advocates who hold correctional systems accountable while striving to improve healthcare and living conditions for incarcerated individuals. Dr. Arrowsmith is deeply committed to supporting the organization's mission and helping bring greater awareness to these critical issues.

Dr. Arrowsmith remains professionally affiliated with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the New Mexico Medical Association, and the American College of Epidemiology. In addition, she previously served as Board President of New Mexico Organized Against Human Trafficking (NM OATH) and currently serves on the boards of Trinity House Catholic Worker in Albuquerque and Prison Lights Inc.

Outside of her professional and volunteer activities, Dr. Arrowsmith enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren, celebrating the accomplishments of her two children, and pursuing outdoor activities such as biking and horseback riding. She credits her late father, William R. Arrowsmith, along with many friends and family members, as lasting sources of inspiration and support throughout her life and career.
