Flower Mound, Texas — Karen Lim-Smith is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional Member in the field of Music Education.
Lim-Smith’s professional title is Owner, Artistic Director and Manager at Music Starz Studios, which specializes in Musical Instruction – particularly in Violin, Viola and Piano lessons. Her personal expertise lies in the areas of music performance, teaching music and live entertainment.
In addition to her 20 years of professional experience teaching music, Lim-Smith has frequently performed with the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Tulsa Opera Orchestra, the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and has toured with Andrea Bocelli as well as Diana Ross and the Supremes throughout the United States.
Lim-Smith earned a Diploma in Music from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from the Australian Institute of Music. She then went on to complete two Master’s degrees in Music Performance and Journalism from the University of North Texas.
To further her professional development, Lim-Smith is a member of the following professional affiliations: the National Association of Professional Women; Denton Music Teachers Association; the Texas Music Teachers Association; Music Teachers National Association; Carrollton Music Teachers Association; the International Women’s Leadership Association; the National Association of Distinguished Professionals; and the Denton Black Chamber of Commerce.
Additionally, Lim-Smith has used her talents as well as the talents of her students for the good of her community. “My students and I devote much of our time and effort to providing free concert performances for hospice patients in affiliation with Good Shepherd Hospice and Hospice Compassus from 2013-2014,” she said. “My students are winners of the President’s Volunteer Service Award Program and have been certified for the Prudential Spirit Community Awards. During my spare time, my students and I perform additional free concerts for hospice patients at : Hollymead, Skilled Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and The Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care,” just to name a few.
Lim-Smith has contributed articles to a number of publications, including: Denton Record – Chronicle; The Dallas Examiner; Counterpoint Music and Denton Online. She also completed an internship with The Denver Post and contributed program notes to the Australian National University Symphony Orchestra concerts.
In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the field, Lim-Smith was the recipient of the following honors and awards: First Prize at Mozart National String Competition; Member of 2014 VIP Woman of the Year Circle from the National Association of Professional Women; 2015 Woman of Outstanding Leadership from the International Women’s Leadership Association; Featured Member in Women of Distinction Magazine – 2015; and 2015 Inspirational Woman of the Year from Women’s Radio Network.
When not working, Lim-Smith enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and walking her four dogs.
