
Waldorf , MD- Karen L. Spencer-Patrick DNP, ACNP-BC, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Pain Management as a Pain Management Specialist and Entrepreneur.
Boasting over 32 years of experience in her field, Dr.
Spencer-Patrick is an expert in Pain management, Battlefield Acupuncture,
Dermatology, and Emergency Care. She has been serving patients at the U.S. Department
of Veterans Affairs VA Medical Center in Washington D.C for 12 years. She is
the first nurse practitioner in the entire Department of Veteran Affairs to
develop and implement a pain management service. In fact, she is the
only nurse practitioner to independently run a service of any kind in the
Department of Veterans Affairs. She is currently writing a publication about
the value of nurse practitioners and pain management specialists in mental
health departments. In addition to being a nurse practitioner, Dr.
Spencer-Patrick opened a home-made soap, bath bomb, and jewelry business that has proven to be extremely
lucrative throughout its 3 years of operation.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hampton University in 1985, Dr.
Spencer-Patrick went on to receive a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from
Wayne State University in 1998. She then pursued a Doctorate of Nursing
Practice (DNP) from Rush University, obtaining this degree in 2009. Dedicated
to outstanding leadership, she completed classes at the Leadership Development
Institute and has been awarded the green and yellow by the International Association for Six Sigma Certification.
Dr. Spencer-Patrick is an esteemed member of the
International Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, and
American Academy of Pain Management. She is charitable through Alpha Kappa
Alpha Inc. that does many charitable works such as provide scholarships for
women and girls in college.
In her free time, Dr. Spencer-Patrick enjoys gardening and spending time with
family and her pets.
Dr. Spencer-Patrick is married to her husband; together they have a son, dog,
cat, and fish. She dedicates this recognition in loving memory of her father Dellie
Spencer.
