From New York State, Doctor Kulwant K. Buttar is being
recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Life Member for her
work in the psychiatric field.
Dr. Buttar received her medical degree (MBBS)
from Patiala Medical College in Punjab, India. After migrating to West, Doctor
completed an internship at General Hospitals affiliated with the University of
Ottawa, Canada. Subsequently, she started her training in Pediatric Residency
at McMasters Medical Center in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Instead of working in
Pediatrics, her interest grew more towards acute medical care treatment of
people, and she started her work in an emergency department of Hamilton Health
Sciences hospitals in Hamilton, ON., Canada.
Dr. Buttar was a Clinical Teaching Unit
Director in department of Emergency Medicine for 7 years at Chedoke-McMaster
University at Hamilton ON Canada. In addition, she served as an examiner MCCQE
11 for the Medical Council at McMaster University and she was involved in
Medical students selection and an admission program at McMaster University ON
Canada.
After working in Acute care medicine for 15 years, Dr. Buttar’s interest grew
more towards Psychiatry. She started and finished her Residency with Trauma
Fellowship in Psychiatry from university of Toronto ON Canada. Dr. Buttar has
been notably recognized for developing a protocol for interns and residents for
detecting an abuse in women and children. Dr. Buttar is Certified in American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), ABPN is a corporation dedicated to
serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Initially, Dr. Kulwant Buttar received her Lifetime Fellow of American
Psychiatric Association and associated with AMA.
APA Board of Trustees has elected Dr. Kulwant Buttar to give her a
Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, effective
January 1, 2023.
Dr. Buttar is considered very efficient in interviews, evaluation, and
treatment of Psychiatric illnesses. She shows her expertise to make a proper diagnosis
in different areas of Psychiatric illnesses including various Psychotic
illnesses, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, PTSD, OCD and other
associated Psychiatric illnesses in adults and teenagers. She has a major
interest in investigation and treatment in trauma related to sexual abuse. She
has the ability to understand people and help them to understand themselves.
Dr. Buttar has worked in the Medical/Psychiatric field for more than 35 years.
Dr. Buttar worked in Canada and moved to California. In Department of State
Hospital at Atascadero, she was a senior
supervising psychiatrist. She sustained a Superior Achievement Award. After she moved to NY State, she started to
work with the offices of mental health system and while working at Buffalo
Psychiatric Center in New York State, she was an acting clinical director as
well as an in-patient director. Dr. Buttar is an Inpatient Director at Buffalo
Psychiatric center. She has been appointed as an Clinical Assistant Professor
in Department of Psychiatry, Jacob School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences,
University of Buffalo NY (SUNY). While working in Buffalo Psychiatric Center
mission is to serve individuals with treatment resistant, serious, and chronic
mental illnesses in a way to empowers them to forward to be a part of society.
BPC operates in collaboration with the local mental health systems of Erie,
Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties. Services include creating
opportunities for personal growth, recovery; fostering hope and respect;
providing safe environments; promoting excellence; and encouraging partnerships
among recipients’ families and providers.
Dr. Buttar has had an affiliated with BryLin Hospital and Niagara Falls
Memorial Medical Center. According to Dr. Buttar, psychiatry is the medical
specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental
disorders. There are various mal-adaptive behaviors needs attention of experts
to help individuals so that they can enjoy daily life. As a Psychiatrist, Dr.
Buttar takes a pride to treat individuals, families and children to correct
their emotional and behavioral disorders. She speaks publicly on mental illness
to community and religious groups locally. She also volunteers her time
assisting the homeless.
Dr. Kulwant Buttar would like to dedicate this honor in loving memory of her
father, Shardha Singh Buttar, Mother Jaswant K Buttar. Dr. Buttar has been
married to Mr. Dharmjit S Bhullar and they have 2 children.
