Margaret M. Herrera, PE, has built a distinguished 30-year career in civil engineering, recognized for her leadership in transportation safety and her commitment to reducing serious injuries and fatalities on roadways. As Arizona Safety Practice Leader at Fehr & Peers, she leads initiatives that advance safety focused engineering solutions while supporting the growth of the transportation safety practice at Fehr & Peers newly opened Arizona office.

Ms. Herrera is widely respected for her expertise in transportation safety engineering and planning, with a strong emphasis on the Safe System Approach. Her work integrates systems-based thinking, stakeholder engagement, and innovative strategies to improve safety outcomes for all roadway users, including non-motorized populations.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Herrera served as Transportation Safety Program Manager at the Maricopa Association of Governments from 2012 to 2025. In this capacity, she led regional safety initiatives, administered funding programs, and coordinated multi stakeholder collaborations that strengthened transportation safety efforts throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. Her leadership contributed to the advancement of policies and programs designed to create safer, more resilient communities.

Ms. Herrera earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from New Mexico State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer. She is actively involved in several leading industry organizations, including the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Integrated Transportation Safety Management, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, where she serves as a volunteer expert panelist contributing to national research initiatives.
