Dr. Wolfer pursued higher education at Indiana University
Southeast in 2017 where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience. She then completed a Psy.D. from Midwestern
University in 2022; completed a clerkship with Lydia Healthcare; and a diagnostic practicum in
neuropsychological assessment at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. She also completed advanced
therapy practicums in pediatrics and adolescents at Riveredge Hospital in Chicago and PTSD at
Capt. James Lovell Federal Healthcare Center in North Chicago.
Working as a Research Assistant at Indiana University Southeast from 2015-2017,
Dr. Wolfer noted that she gained experience in writing proposals and manuscripts for publication;
presented research findings at conferences in the Midwest; and taught peer scientific experimentation and
writing, as well as improving their pipetting skills. From 2017-2018, Dr. Wolfer completed her
clerkship with Lydia Healthcare and from 2018-2019, she worked at Riverside Medical Center as a
Neuropsychology Diagnostic Extern. The doctor continued training from 2019-2020 where she
worked as a Psychotherapy Extern at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center and then worked as
an Advanced Psychotherapy Extern at Riveredge Hospital from 2020-2021 She also served as an
Adjunct Professor of Psychology at St. Augustine College from 2020-2021.
Adding to her exceptional training and education, Dr. Wolfer was a Psychology
Intern at Richard L.Roudebush VA Medical Center from 2021-2022. She then began her residency in
Geropsychology and Neuropsychology at Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center, where she was promoted to
Chief Resident in September 2022.
Specializing in trauma; personality disorders; cognitive rehabilitation; and
problem-solving therapy, Dr. Wolfer currently is a resident in neuropsychology at Bruce W. Carter VA Medical
Center which she began after completing a psychology internship at Richard L. Roudebush Medical Center
in Indianapolis, IN. The doctor asserts that psychology is a vast field that studies conscious and
unconscious mental processes; behavior; emotions; and cognition. It is an academic discipline with a broad
scope, and psychologists assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders and behavioral issues that
stem from physical or mental health conditions. She explained that psychologists play a crucial role
in promoting healthy behavior; preventing illnesses; and improving patients' overall quality
of life.
Known for her exceptional care and compassion with patients, Dr. Wolfer asserts
that she focuses on studying the needs of veterans with dementia or other incapacitating illnesses
as well as examining caregivers to improve their quality of life and healthcare services while
introducing innovative interventions. She considers the psychological, emotional, physical, financial,
and medical requirements of older adults with dementia and comorbid mood or personality disorders to
implement her research findings into her clinical work for better patient care and support.
A clinical researcher, Dr. Wolfer is an expert in neurodegenerative conditions,
both mild and significant cognitive impairments, such as TBI, stroke, and comorbid mood and personality
disorders. The doctor notes that she is particularly passionate about examining these interests in
the context of service members, veterans, and their families.
Dr. Wolfer is dedicated to providing the latest advancements in the field and
is affiliated with the American Psychological Association; and Division 19, the Society for Military
Psychology. She actively advocates for increasing military cultural awareness among her professional and
personal communities.
Dr. Wolfer notes that her mentors are Richard Ney, Ph.D., Candace Tomes,
Psy.D., Estevan Ruiz Limon Lopez, Ph.D., Jonathan Perle, Ph.D., and Ann Sauer, Ph.D. She credits her
success to her husband of two years, Drew, and their son, Wyatt, and aims to set an example for others while
utilizing her expertise to assist her community further.
