Dr. Raul A. Porro Vizcarra has built a distinguished career in anesthesiology, marked by more than four decades of clinical excellence, leadership, and dedication to patient safety. Specializing in general and cardiothoracic anesthesia, he has earned a reputation as a mission driven physician committed to helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes throughout the perioperative process.

Dr. Porro Vizcarra provides comprehensive anesthesia services, with expertise in thoracic and cardiothoracic procedures, while maintaining a strong focus on perioperative patient care and safety. His clinical work is complemented by his leadership as Vice Chair within his department, where he supports operational oversight, mentors emerging physicians, and contributes to advancing standards within the field.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico Medical School in 1981 and completed advanced training in cardiothoracic anesthesiology between 1986 and 1988. Over the course of his career, he has also served as a professor, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of medical professionals.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Porro Vizcarra is an experienced consultant and expert witness, further demonstrating his recognized expertise within anesthesiology. His professional affiliations include the American Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Porro Vizcarra’s contributions to medicine have been widely recognized with numerous honors, including Top Doctor’s Awards in 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025, Delaware Today Top Doctors recognition from 2023 through 2025, and Metropolitan Magazine’s Best in Healthcare in 2025. Earlier in his career, he received the Doctors Choice Award in Puerto Rico annually from 1995 to 2008.
