San Francisco, CA — Rebecca Short, DO, MPH, is being
recognized by Continental Who’s Who as an Exceptional
Mental Health Professional and in acknowledgment of her work as a
Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Silicon Valley Behavioral Health Integrated
Clinical Neurosciences.
Dr Short is a board-certified adult
psychiatrist who believes in using a whole-person approach to meet the mental
health care needs of the individual. She was the Medical Director at Silicon
Valley TMS, which comprises of six in offices, including locations in Corte
Madera/Marin, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Mountain View, Pleasanton or East Bay,
and San Jose. Dr. Short is primarily based in Marina and San Francisco where
she resides but elects to see patients in person when this can be safely
permitted. She focuses much of her practice on Neurodivergent clients.
Dr. Short focuses on neurodivergence, interpersonal trauma (including PTSD),
and women’s mental health. She also sees patients for “talk therapy ". Dr.
Short sees people ranging in age from teenagers through adulthood. She also
treats various mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, OCD, eating
disorders, bipolar disorders, and personality disorders. She also takes a
concerted approach to treating trauma-related conditions, eating disorders, and
attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD).
Dr. Short completed a Bachelor of Science degree in both Nutritional Sciences
and Life Science at Kansas State University. After working as a nutrition
consultant in Southern California for a year, she completed a Master of Public
Health degree at Touro University of California. She then pursued an
Osteopathic Medical Degree at Western University of Health Sciences of the
Pacific, ranking in the Top 10 of her academic class. She completed her
residency in psychiatry at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California and was
Co- Chief Resident along with colleagues Dr. Sam Murray and Dr. Ben Lui in her
final year.
Dr. Short worked with two attending psychiatrists during her residency to
create a program that promoted resilience, education, and support for patients
recovering from trauma. She has extensive experience in practice areas related
to trauma, women’s health, eating disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders such
as ADHD and ASD, LGBTQ+ mental health, and working with professionals in the
high-tech industry of the Bay Area.
Dr. Short is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical
Association, and several other local organizations related to medicine and
psychiatrist. She is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). According to Dr. Short, the ABPN is an
organization that provides board certification to Doctor of Osteopathic
Medicine (DOs) and Medical Doctors (MDs). She is currently licensed in
California and plans to pursue a license in Kansas and Missouri.
Dr. Short’s research areas include interventional psychiatry, psychedelic
medicine, and ketamine-assisted treatment for PTSD. Psychiatry is the medical
specialty devoted to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental disorders.
These include various maladaptations related to mood behavior, cognition, and
perceptions.
Dr. Short notes that psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with
mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric
evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate
treatment results. Some psychiatrists provide psychotherapy. The doctor is a
member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Clinical TMS Society, the
Central California Psychiatric Society, and the Sierra Sacramento Valley
Medical Society.
Dr. Short wishes to acknowledge the support of her coworkers and supervisors at
Refresh Mental Health including Serena Walker in the Human Resources department
and Dr. Mierelle Reece, PsyD and Dr. Gina Negrette. She would also like to
acknowledge her mother, Jacquelyn Henne, her late paternal grandmother, Mary
Ann Short, and paternal step grandmother, Sally Short. Additionally, she wants
to mention childhood friend, Shawnee Barron, and Loretta Coccetella (Barthuly)
for their steadfast friendship.
She would like to acknowledge her late father, Jeff Short and late cousins,
Robbie Short and Luke Short and her mentors, Dr. Sciolla, MD, Jessica Ferranti,
MD, Caroline Giroux, MD, MPH, and Dr. Saad Shakir, MD, who is the founder,
former CEO and former CMO of Silicon Valley TMS. Further, she would like to acknowledge her
colleagues and close friends, Dr. Sam Murray, Dr. Jed Ferrell, Dr. Bethel
Misgana Essaw and her husband, Nahom, Dr. Eyden Sayah, Dr. Agnes Kwon-Simone,
Dr. Nicole Rouse Motakef, Dr. Eleasa Sokolski, and Dr. Carol Chen, Dr. Simone
Liu. She would like to thank the support of several of her classmates from
WesternU Class of 2016, as well as all her co-residents from her time in
residency at UC Davis Health in Sacramento.
Additionally, Dr. Short would like to acknowledge her good friends Josh Booth,
