ROBERT JAMES WREN - AEROSPACE ENGINEERING MANAGER

Friendswood, Texas – Robert James Wren is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who for his outstanding contributions to the field of Aerospace and for the successes he has amassed as an Aerospace Engineering Manager and Top Engineer at NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. He retired in 2000 after voluminous years of service, remaining a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.

Founded over fifty years ago, the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston is a facility for human spaceflight that conducts training, research, and flight control. The center has been a leader in human space exploration, having employed dedicated professionals who have made great advancements in science, technology, engineering, and medicine. Currently, they are working with the American aerospace industry to develop, operate innovative spacecraft, and launch systems that will be capable of carrying crews to low-Earth Orbit and the international space station on to the moon and Mars.

Having attained extensive expertise in system management, Mr. Wren was involved in space missions during his thirty-eight year tenure. Most recently, he was the Manager in the Engineering Directorate of Vehicle and Payload Flight System Safety. He also served as the Head of the Experimental Dynamics section, Manager of Structural Design and Development, Alternate Chairman of the Space Shuttle Payload Safety Review Panel, and Member of the Space Shuttle Payload Safety Review Panel. He is also recognized for his contribution as a Manager of the assessment programs for the Apollo Lunar Module-2 Drop and Apollo Spacecraft 2TV-1 CSM. He began working at the center after completing his master’s degree, joining the Apollo 8 lunar mission as a Senior Structural Dynamics Engineer, Manager of the Vibration and Acoustic Test Facility, Head of Experimental Dynamics, and Manager of Apollo Spacecraft 2TV-1 CSM Test Program and Apollo Lunar Module-2 Drop Test Program.

An academic, Mr. Wren graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1956. After this achievement, he attended the Southern Methodist University in 1962, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He continued his education at the University of Houston, becoming a doctoral candidate. He was inspired to have a career in engineering on account of his father, James Wren, who constructed dams and bridges throughout the United States.

To further professional development, Mr. Wren is affiliated with the NASA Alumni Association and the Rotary Club of Space Center. At the space club, he mentored young adults who would soon enter the field of aerospace.

On account of Mr. Wren’s experience in the aerospace industry, NASA has bestowed him the Sustained Superior Performance Award, Outstanding Service Award, and Personal Letters of Commendation.

Mr. Wren dedicates this recognition to his mother and father, James and Gladys Wren, and his brother, Lou Wren.
