Board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Russell D. Dumire is currently proudly
serving the medical community at Conemaugh Physician Group – Surgery in
Johnstown, PA, for the past 20 years. He has been practicing medicine for over
three decades, specializing in all areas of general surgery and trauma and
critical care surgery. As Chair of General Surgery and the Trauma Medical
Director, Dr. Dumire demonstrates the highest level of professionalism,
integrity, and compassion.
In light of his academic achievements, Dr. Dumire obtained his Bachelor of
Science degree in Biology from West Virginia University, followed by earning
his Medical degree from the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences
in Bethesda, Maryland. Thereafter, he notably served 15 years in the USAF
Medical Corps, leaving as the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During this time, he
completed his general surgical training at Wright-Patterson AFB (combined
program with Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio). Then he completed a
trauma and critical care surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical
Center. Dr. Dumire also served as a charter member of the Joint Trauma Training
Team (JTTC) which trained military trauma teams prior to deployment in a joint
military-civilain initiative at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston Texas. With a
commitment to excellence, Dr. Dumire is board-certified in general surgery as
well as Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery.
A distinguished Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Dumire, remains
abreast of his field's latest advancements. He maintains active memberships
with the American Association of Surgical Trauma, the Eastern Association for
the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Outside of his professional career, Dr. Dumire is an active member of his
community. He serves as a volunteer wrestling coach at Westmont Junior High. He
also devotes his time to community charitable endeavors through Conemaugh
Physician Group, including food pantries and the backpack program.
On a personal note, Dr. Dumire enjoys scuba diving, wrestling, and practicing
martial arts in his spare time.

who served as the doctor's residency director and inspiration in his career;
and Ken Mattox, MD, with whom the doctor worked under during his training in
trauma.
