New York, NY/Continental Who’s Who/Sharon P. Scrima is recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Public Relations and Communications. Sharon is the Director of Media Relations for Sports Media 101.
A highly versatile, enthusiastic and high-energy contributor, Sharon is a former Wall Street Human Resources executive with over 20 years of experience in corporate America who successfully re-invented herself within the dynamic world of online sports journalism. The transformation began in January 2012 when she submitted a writing sample to Sports Media 101, a unique online sports news media organization founded in early 2011. Sharon, an impassioned boxing fan since childhood, noticed that the young and growing company did not offer boxing coverage among their member sites so applied for a position to establish Boxing 101. Her application was accepted and she became Writer and Editor, building a loyal following of obsessive boxing fans through the creation of original, engaging and insightful content. In addition to boxing news, fight previews, recaps and analysis, her articles included several human interest stories surrounding the trials, tribulations and triumphs of fighters both inside and out of the ring.
Sharon was promoted to Director of Media Relations in September 2013 where she began to apply the various transferrable skills she acquired through her Human Resources career and experience as Editor of Boxing 101. In her current capacity, Sharon is primarily responsible for developing relationships and managing communication with professional sports teams, player agents, event organizers and other media. She researches and identifies nationwide coverage opportunities for writers throughout the Sports Media 101 organization that would appeal to the obsessive fan, while expanding writer exposure and publicizing off-the-field activities and/or micro-news. This includes securing interviews with sports figures and obtaining media credentials for community and charity events, press conferences, camps and games. Additionally, Sharon is involved with implementing social media strategies to assist in the growth of online supporter traffic and she collaborates with Marketing professionals to develop and execute advertising, marketing and promotion campaigns.
Her passion for sports also extends to her hobbies and interests. Recognizing the need for quality officials to better support and positively influence the young men and women who possess the courage and dedication to step into a boxing ring, Sharon volunteers her time as a certified amateur boxing official with USA Boxing - Metro. She also serves as Secretary and Treasurer of Ring 10 Veterans Boxing Foundation of New York, a charitable organization that aids impoverished and/or ailing fighters (regardless of background, origin or professional record). Unlike other major sports that have a union to represent the athlete, professional boxers have no such protection, making the years after their retirement from the ring particularly challenging. Former world champions Wilfred Benitez, Gerald McClellan, Iran Barkley and Riddick Bowe are just a few of the brave fighters whom Ring 10 has helped over the years. Sharon earned a BS in Human Resources Management from Rhode Island College and has taken several professional development courses throughout the course of her career. This includes the Leadership Development Program at the Center for Creative Leadership, the Dale Carnegie Course and Landmark Education’s Self-Expression and Leadership Program.
