Inspired by his father, who was a lawyer and Air Force veteran, Mr. Street followed a similar path. He began his acclaimed career in 1973 at a law firm in Washington D.C. before serving as a JAG in the U.S. Air Force in Hawaii. He returned to Washington D.C. law firm after his Air Force commitment and later served as Vice President and General Counsel to a trade association there. In 1981, he returned to Hawaii and became a partner at Rush Moore LLP, where he served for nearly 30 years.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Street completed his undergraduate studies at Southern Methodist University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science. He then went on to obtain a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Virginia Law School and a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Virginia. Since then, he has remained abreast of the latest developments in his field by maintaining professional affiliations with the D.C. Bar Association, the Hawaii State Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Copyright Society of America. He has served on the Board of the HSBA Intellectual Property and Technology Section since 2006 and was Section Chair for 2010 and 2011.
In light of his professional excellence, Mr. Street has been named Lawyer of the Year in Copyright Law by Best Lawyers. For several years, he has been listed among Super Lawyers of Hawaii, Best Lawyers in Hawaii, Best Law Firms by U.S. News & World Report, and Top 25 Lawyers in Honolulu by Super Lawyers.
Mr. Street has been very involved in community service activities for many years. He has served on the International Board of Directors for Special Olympics, Inc., where he chaired the International Advisory Committee. He also served on the North American Leadership Council and the United States Leadership Council for Special Olympics, Inc., and he is a past Chairman of the Special Olympics Hawaii Board of Directors. He served on the Board of Special Olympics Hawaii for 20 years and coached Special Olympics Hawaii swimming and soccer teams for over 18 years. Other community service has included memberships on the Board of Directors for the Protection and Advocacy Agency of Hawaii (President - 3 years), Make-a-Wish Foundation of Hawaii, the Hawaii Loa Ridge Homeowners' Association (President - 2 years), and the Hawaii Disabilities Rights Center, as well as serving on the Hawaii State Department of Health, Developmental Disabilities Division, Advisory Committee.
In his rare spare time, Mr. Street enjoys painting. In 2017 he marked 60 years of painting in oils in his spare time. More than 40 of those years have been inspired by living and working in the beauty of Hawai'i with the diverse and wonderful people who call Hawai'i home. His original oil paintings have been selected for juried art competitions in Hawai'i, a four-artist show at a gallery in Washington D.C., and in more than 15 private collections.
