Colorectal surgery is a medical field dealing with disorders
of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this
term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to
identify practices relating to the anus and rectum. A colorectal surgeon is a
physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of anorectal and
colorectal conditions.
Dr. Adams was just 15 years old when his father had heart
surgery, so he spent a lot of time around healthcare then, which led to his
desire to help patients in the medical field. He finds that what his patients
like most about him is that he communicates very well. He wants to ensure that
each of his patients is fully aware of their options and treatments. Dr. Adams
also enjoys mentoring residents and students and hopes to guide them to be
competent and compassionate physicians.
Before starting his professional journey, Dr. Adams
graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the State University
of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. He earned his Medical Degree (M.D.) from the SUNY School of Medicine at Stony
Brook. He then returned to SUNY at Buffalo, where he completed his residency in
general surgery before completing his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at
Saint Vincent's Health Center.
An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in
colon and rectal surgery and general surgery by the American Board of
Colorectal Surgery (ABCRS) and the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABCRS
and ABS are independent non-profit organizations founded to certify surgeons
who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Among his various accolades, Dr. Adams has received the Teaching
Award at SUNY at Buffalo.
As the youngest of 10 children, Dr. Adams believes his
family has been an integral part of his success. His parents fully supported
him while growing up. His wife, to whom he has been married for 27 years, is
the backbone of their family, which includes their four children.
Outside of work, Dr. Adams focuses on the importance of
family, so he spends a lot of time on sports and other activities with his
children. He also enjoys watching sports.
