Having devoted over 25 years to the medical field, Dr. Tom X-L Tan is a distinguished, board-certified radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist. He began as a primary care physician and realized his analytical ability and excellence as a diagnostician would be a better fit for Radiology. Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Tan had garnered valuable knowledge from staff and leadership roles he had excelled in, such as Staff Radiologist & Nuclear Medicine Specialist at various hospitals, Vice-President Board of Directors of Lima Radiologic Associates, LLP in Lima, Ohio, Chairman of Radiation Safety Committee, and Director of Nuclear Med Section at St. Rita’s Med Center, to name a few.
An expert in his field, Dr. Tan was situated in Hong Kong from 2014 to 2019, where he established a Radiology Residency Program at Hong Kong University--Shenzhen Hospital. He served as Deputy Chief of Services / Director of the Radiology Residency Program/ Medical Ultrasound Residency Program and an Honorary Associate Professor in Radiology. In addition, he notably served as the Deputy Chief of Medical Imaging Department, Member of Ethics Committee, Academic & Research Committee, and Committee Member of Medical Ethics of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. Dr. Tan currently serves as a consultant in Diagnostic Imaging.
Among his academic achievements, Dr. Tan obtained his Bachelor & Master of Medicine at Xian Medical University in China in 1985. From 1986 to 1990, he served as a resident and attending physician at Shaanxi Provincial Hospital, followed by a research associate at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. From 1991 to 1993. He furthered his medical career with an internship in internal medicine at Gunderson Medical Foundation and served as a resident physician from 1993 to 1994. Considering his strong interest in radiology, he went on to complete a nuclear medicine residency as a resident physician at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1996, followed by a radiology residency at Ohio State University Medical Center in 1999 (because of his excellence in both residents training performance and academic research achievements, Dr. Tan successfully graduated from the residency program one year earlier than his peers). A Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Dr. Tan is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
Remaining abreast of the latest advancements in his specialty, Dr. Tan maintains active memberships with the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American Medical Association, the Radiological Society of North America, the Texas Radiological Society, and the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Tan has been married to his wife, Marcia Tan, for 30 years.
